Air Freight Services from Toronto

Most of the freight we forward moves by ocean, because most freight should: it costs a fraction of air. Air freight is for the shipment where the math flips: a production line waiting on a part, a trade show that opens Friday, an order with a penalty clause.

Your freight is packed and palletized at our Toronto warehouse by the crews that build our export containers, booked through licensed IATA cargo agents at Toronto Pearson (YYZ), and trucked to the airline's terminal on our own truck, with the ocean price quoted beside the air quote.

When air freight is worth it, and when it is not

Air freight is priced on chargeable weight — the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight — and typically costs five to fifteen times the ocean rate for the same shipment. That is worth paying when the cargo is light, urgent and valuable: spare parts, samples, medical goods, documents of value, launch inventory. It is rarely worth paying for dense or heavy freight, which is why we quote the ocean alternative beside every air quote. A pallet that flies for $4,000 and sails for $500 deserves a conscious decision, and our LCL ocean service is often the answer once the real deadline is on the table.

What the premium buys: the same lane an ocean box sails in weeks, a freighter flies overnight.
  • Urgent: production stoppages, trade shows, contract deadlines
  • Light and valuable: parts, samples, electronics, medical supplies
  • Perishable timelines where an ocean transit kills the value
  • Not for dense, heavy or non-urgent freight — we will tell you when ocean wins

Packed to fly: the part we do with our own hands

Airlines are stricter than steamship lines: skids must be stackable or capped, overhangs are rejected, crates must pass the forklift test, and dangerous goods paperwork must be exact. Our crews prepare air cargo at our Toronto warehouse — export crating, heat-treated lumber where the destination requires it, palletizing to airline height limits, shrink wrapping and banding — then our truck delivers it to the airline's cargo terminal at Pearson with the paperwork riding along. Freight that arrives at the terminal correctly packed and documented makes its flight; that is most of what air freight service actually is.

Booked through the people who book planes all day

We place air bookings through licensed IATA cargo agents and consolidators we work with, rather than pretending to be an airline desk ourselves. That is deliberate: consolidators buy space daily on every carrier out of YYZ and price sharper than an occasional shipper ever could, and it keeps our role honest — the warehouse, the packing, the trucking and the coordination are ours; the aircraft belongs to the specialists. Customs entries at destination are filed by licensed brokers, coordinated the same way we do it for ocean forwarding.

FAQ

Air Freight: frequently asked questions

Do you offer air freight from Toronto?
Yes. Cargo is packed and palletized at our Toronto warehouse, booked through licensed IATA cargo agents out of Toronto Pearson, and tendered at the airline terminal on our own truck. Ocean remains our main mode — we quote both when the deadline allows, because air should be a decision, not a reflex.
How is air freight priced?
On chargeable weight: the greater of the actual weight and the volumetric weight (length × width × height ÷ 6000 in cm/kg). Light, bulky freight pays for its volume; dense freight pays for its mass. Add fuel and security surcharges, terminal fees and, on door-to-door moves, clearance and delivery at destination — all itemized on the quote.
How fast is air freight compared to ocean?
Airport to airport is typically 1 to 4 days to most of the world, against 4 to 8 weeks door to door by ocean. Add a day or two on each end for packing, terminal cut-offs and customs clearance. When a shipment is urgent but not that urgent, expedited ocean or a partial air/ocean split can save most of the premium.
Are you an airline or an IATA agent yourselves?
No — bookings are placed through licensed IATA cargo agents and consolidators we work with, who buy space on every carrier out of YYZ daily and price better than any occasional desk could. Our part is the warehouse, the export packing, the trucking and the coordination; we keep every role honest, the same way customs entries go to licensed brokers.
Can you fly dangerous goods?
Only case by case, and only with the classification confirmed up front — air DG rules (IATA DGR) are far stricter than road or ocean, and many goods that sail cannot fly, lithium batteries being the classic example. Send the safety data sheet with the enquiry and we will give you a straight answer before anything is promised.
