Cross-Border Freight Shipping Between Canada and the USA

Cross-border freight is where a commercial shipment most often goes wrong: the truck is fine, the paperwork is not, and the load sits at the border while the delivery appointment passes. We run Canada to USA freight from our Toronto warehouse with the border prepared before the wheels turn: picked up or received at our dock, palletized and wrapped if needed, dispatched with the customs entry already in motion.

Full truckload and LTL, both directions. We coordinate the PARS or PAPS entry with your broker (or introduce a licensed one) and book vetted cross-border carriers lane by lane, so one quote covers pickup, the border and final delivery.

What our cross-border freight service covers

A cross-border move has three parts: the Canadian leg, the border, and the U.S. leg. We own the first outright — pickup anywhere in the GTA and Southern Ontario on our trucks, or your freight delivered into our Toronto dock, where it is counted, photographed, palletized and wrapped to survive the trip. The border is a paperwork exercise we run in advance: commercial invoice, bill of lading, and the PARS (into Canada) or PAPS (into the U.S.) entry filed with the customs broker before the carrier is dispatched. The U.S. leg runs on cross-border carriers we vet and book lane by lane, with the delivery appointment made before the truck leaves our yard.

  • Pickup across the GTA and Southern Ontario, or receiving at our Toronto dock
  • Palletizing, shrink wrapping, labelling and load securement before dispatch
  • Commercial invoice and BOL package prepared and checked
  • PARS / PAPS coordination with your customs broker, or an introduction to a licensed one
  • FTL and LTL bookings with vetted cross-border carriers, both directions
  • One quote and one point of contact from pickup to signed delivery

Commercial freight, consolidated in Toronto first

The cheapest cross-border freight is the shipment that crosses once, full. Suppliers with multiple GTA pickups use our warehouse as the consolidation point: each vendor delivers or we collect, the freight is received and palletized to one standard, and a single truck crosses with one entry instead of five. Southbound e-commerce and wholesale programs run the same way in reverse for returns. It is the same dock, crews and racking that run our transloading and palletizing work, applied to the border lane.

What we are honest about

We are not a customs broker — entries are filed by licensed brokers we coordinate with, and that is exactly how it should be. Container drayage stays on our own trucks in Ontario and Quebec; the cross-border road freight itself moves on partner carriers we have vetted on the lane, under our booking and our responsibility for the schedule. Household goods to the U.S. are a different service with different rules: see moving to the USA.

    Paperwork before wheels

Commercial invoice and BOL checked, PARS / PAPS entry coordinated with the broker, carrier dispatched with the border pre-cleared.

FAQ

Cross-Border Freight USA: frequently asked questions

Do you ship freight from Canada to the USA?
Yes. Commercial freight — FTL and LTL dry van — from Toronto and Southern Ontario to the U.S., and northbound in reverse. The Canadian pickup and prep is done by our own crews and trucks; the cross-border lane runs on vetted partner carriers under our booking.
Who clears customs on a cross-border shipment?
A licensed customs broker files the entry — we are not a broker and do not pretend to be. We prepare the commercial invoice and BOL, send the paperwork to your broker in advance, and coordinate the PARS or PAPS number so the truck is pre-cleared when it reaches the border. No broker yet? We introduce one.
What is the difference between PARS and PAPS?
They are the pre-arrival review systems on each side of the border: PARS (Pre-Arrival Review System) clears freight entering Canada, PAPS (Pre-Arrival Processing System) clears freight entering the United States. In both, the entry is filed against a barcode number before the truck arrives, so the driver is waved through instead of parked.
Can you consolidate several pickups into one cross-border load?
Yes — that is the main reason to run the lane through a warehouse. Multiple GTA pickups are received at our Toronto dock, palletized to one standard and shipped as a single truckload with a single entry, which is cheaper and clears faster than several LTL shipments.
Do you move household goods to the USA?
Yes, but as a moving service, not a freight service — packing, customs forms for personal effects and delivery into the home are different from commercial freight. See moving to the USA from Canada.
How long does cross-border freight take from Toronto?
Buffalo and the border states are next-day; the U.S. Midwest and Northeast typically 1 to 3 business days; further lanes are quoted per trip. The honest variable is the paperwork — a pre-cleared entry crosses in minutes, a missing invoice can cost a day.
