Customs Clearance Services for Importers in Toronto

Customs clearance is where importers lose the most time for the least reason: the goods are fine, the truck is booked, and everything waits on a document nobody sent. We prepare and check the paperwork, place the entry with licensed customs broker partners (or your own broker), watch the release, and have the truck at the terminal the day the freight clears.

One honest line up front: entries are filed by licensed customs brokers, because that is who the law says files them. What we sell is everything around the entry, and the freight actually moving when the release lands instead of sitting in a terminal burning storage.

What our customs clearance service covers

Clearance goes wrong at the seams between vendors: the broker has not seen the invoice, the terminal clock is running, and the trucker was never told the box released. We run all three seams from one desk. Before arrival, your commercial documents are collected and checked, and the entry is placed with the broker early enough for pre-arrival release. On arrival, we watch the status daily against the terminal's free time. On release, the pickup is already booked — to your dock, into our yard, or unloaded at our warehouse.

  • Document collection and checking: commercial invoice, packing list, BOL, certificates
  • Entry placed with our licensed broker partners, or coordinated with yours
  • Pre-arrival release targeted on every ocean container
  • Release status and terminal free time watched daily
  • Pickup booked for release day — terminal storage avoided, not disputed later
  • Cleared LCL cargo picked up from all major CFS (container freight station) warehouses in the GTA
  • Duties and GST settled through the broker on your account

Holds and exams, handled instead of suffered

Some containers get flagged — targeted or random — and sent for a CBSA examination. This is where an importer with no local partner bleeds money: exam fees, extra drayage to the exam facility, and terminal storage stacking up while emails go unanswered. Because the drayage and the clearance coordination sit at the same desk here, a held container is managed as one problem: we coordinate with the broker and the exam facility, truck the box to and from the exam, pre-pull it into our yard if free time is about to die, and deliver the day it is released.

Clearance built into the rest of the move

Most of our clearance work rides on freight we are already moving: ocean imports we forwarded, containers we dray from CN Brampton and CPKC Vaughan, cross-border truckloads with their PARS or PAPS entry coordinated before dispatch, and air cargo cleared at Pearson. Standalone coordination for freight moving with other carriers is welcome too — the broker introduction alone has saved more than one first-time importer from learning the hard way. The plain-language version of how release works is in our guide: customs clearance in Canada, explained.

How it works

From booking to proof of delivery

  1. 01

    Send the shipment documents

Commercial invoice, packing list and transport document, ideally before the goods ship. We check them and flag what a broker will bounce.

  2. 02

    Entry filed early

Placed with our licensed broker partners or yours, targeting pre-arrival release so the goods clear while still in transit.

  3. 03

    Release watched

Status checked daily against terminal free time; holds and exams managed with the broker and the exam facility.

  4. 04

    Freight moves on release day

Truck booked in advance: delivered to your dock, pre-pulled into our yard, or unloaded at our warehouse.

FAQ

Customs Clearance: frequently asked questions

Are you a licensed customs broker?
No, and we say so on every page rather than pretending otherwise. Entries are filed by the licensed customs broker partners we work with daily, or by your own broker. What we do is everything around the entry: prepare and check the documents, coordinate the filing, watch the release, handle holds and exams, and move the freight the moment it clears.
How long does customs clearance take in Canada?
With documents submitted early, most ocean containers receive pre-arrival release and clear before they reach Toronto — effectively zero added days. Documents that arrive late, value or classification questions, and exam flags are what add time: from a day for a document fix to a week for a full examination.
What documents do I need to clear an import?
The core set: a commercial invoice that plainly describes the goods and their value, a packing list, and the transport document (bill of lading or airway bill). Depending on the goods, add certificates of origin for tariff treatment, and permits for regulated products. We check the set before the broker files, because a bounced entry costs days.
My container is on a customs hold. Can you help?
Yes — this is a routine call for us. We find out what kind of hold it is, coordinate with the broker and CBSA's exam facility, run the drayage to and from the exam, and pre-pull the container into our yard if terminal free time is about to expire, so storage does not compound the delay.
Who pays the duties and taxes?
The importer — duties and GST are calculated in the broker's entry and settled through the broker on your account. Our invoice covers the coordination and the trucking; government money flows through the broker, itemized, where you can see it.
